Political Action Committee Increases Clout
The Maine Innkeepers Association Political Action Committee is a vital part of our effective governmental affairs efforts. PAC money helps us gain access to legislators. In addition, PAC money enables us to make a real difference in electing candidates who support our industry.
Our PAC is further enhanced by the new Maine Elections Law, which took effect in 2000. Under this law, candidates can accept no more than $250 from any single contributor. This means that PACs such as ours can have a much more compelling impact on races.
We're proud to note that our PAC is growing. We launched our PAC in September of 1998, and raised $1,500 the first year. Just two years later, we raised more than $4,000 to contribute to candidates in the November election. This year, we gave to some 24 candidates and both political parties.
Legislative Turnover Means Substantial Ongoing Education Necessary
Clearly, our legislature is addressing more and more issues affecting our industry every year. With the turnover generated by term limits, the process of educating legislators regarding our industry is ongoing. Your donations are critical to our PAC's success.
