FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 Greg Dugal, Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 Maine Innkeepers Swing into Spring with Fourth Annual ‘Tees &Textbooks’ Annual Hospitality Golf Classic & Gala benefits Maine Innkeepers Association’s Education Foundation Freeport, ME – May 22, 2008 – The Maine Innkeepers Association swings into spring with their Fourth Annual ‘Tees & Textbooks’, a gala scholarship dinner and Hospitality Golf Classic to be held at Sunday River Resort in Newry June 16 and 17, announced Executive Director Greg Dugal. The two day event, which combines the 14th Annual Hospitality Golf Classic and the Association’s 24th Annual Education Scholarship Awards, raises funds to provide support and inspiration to local students pursuing a career in hospitality. Festivities tee off at The Grand Summit Resort on June 16th with a social hour at 5:30PM, sponsored by New England Coffee Company. A gala dinner sponsored by Turner Barker Insurance and Daigle Commercial Properties follows with scholarship recipients being honored. The evening will wrap up with the humorous entertainment of comedian George Hamm, well known at Portland’s comedy club, the Las Vegas Bellagio, and the Improv in Los Angeles. Hamm, a Maine native, has warmed up audiences with his amusing routines for blues legend Leon Redbone, and bands such as Cheap Trick and The Del Fuegos and has appeared in three films. The following day, The 14th Annual Hospitality Golf Classic, sponsored by New England Coffee Company, begins at 9:00AM with a shotgun scramble at the scenic Sunday River Golf Course. Each player will receive a loaded goody bag sponsored by Prudential Northeast Properties, and a ‘pick up and play’ breakfast. Great door prizes and golf awards for ‘longest drive’, sponsored by Sysco of Northern New England, ‘closest to the pin’ sponsored by Smith Travel Research, and putting contests sponsored by Prudential Northeast Properties will be presented at a Barbecue lunch at the Jordan Grand Resort. Golf Towels will be provided by Turkish Towels, beverages by Cross Insurance Employee Benefits, and Tee sponsors are Bangor Daily News, The Boston Globe and Nelson and Small. “The committee has done an outstanding job putting together a highly entertaining two day event,” said Maine Innkeeper’s Association Director Greg Dugal. “Tees and Textbooks is a great networking opportunity for Innkeepers and allied businesses just before the summer season, and creates an enjoyable way to raise scholarship funds. This year The Maine Innkeepers Association is pleased to announce 10 scholarships totally $8500 will be awarded to Maine hospitality students.” Tickets for the scholarship dinner are $55 per person and all proceeds benefit The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation, a 401c3 charity. Tickets for the golf classic, which includes green fees, cart, drinks, snacks, prizes, breakfast and lunch, are $115 for an individual or $440 for a foursome.
