Laura Honey Awarded Innkeeper of The Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 kewr@glance.net Greg Dugal Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 LAURA HONEY OF FISHERMAN’S WHARF INN AWARDED INNKEEPER OF THE YEAR BY MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION Freeport, ME – November 24, 2008 – Laura Honey, Manager of Fisherman’s Wharf Inn in Boothbay Harbor, was named Innkeeper of the Year by the Maine Innkeeper’s Association at their 87th Annual Meeting & Conference held at Sebasco Harbor Resort, in Sebasco Estates, on October 28th. The coveted Innkeeper of the Year Award is presented to an active lodging operator who has contributed significant time and effort toward the improvement of the Maine Innkeepers Association. Honey began her career as a part time employee at Fisherman’s Wharf in 1965. In 1982 she became the Assistant Manager, and later Manager where she has remained successfully overseeing operations for over twenty years. Honey has served on the board of the Maine Innkeepers Association since 2005. She also worked with the Maine Restaurant Association, becoming their first female Chairperson, and was honored with their Lifetime Achievement Award. As an active member of the Maine Tourism Association, Honey hosted their Annual Meeting in 2007. Honey has also worked in her community serving as President of the Boothbay Harbor Chamber of Commerce, trustee of St. Andrews Hospital, and as member of the board of the Maine Merchants Workers Compensation Trust. She has been active in the Boothbay Congregational Church and has also served on her local PTA. According to Honey, her employment at Fisherman’s Wharf has been a joy and not a job.
