(MEIA) The sixth annual Hospitality for Habitat program will run from May 1st to May 22nd, 2009 with participating MEIA members offering half priced, discounted room rates to guests in exchange for a $35 donation check payable to Habitat for Humanity. “Hospitality for Habitat offers visitors to Maine an opportunity to give back to the community where they enjoy spending their vacations in a significant way,” said Greg Dugal, Executive Director for MEIA. “And it’s a terrific way to experience Maine’s best hotels, inns and B&B’s at deeply discounted rates. This should be a banner year for the program as guests are looking, even more than ever, for value in their travel plans.” Maine’s hospitality community first teamed up with Habitat for Humanity in 2004 to help build homes for low income families in Maine. The ‘Hospitality for Habitat’ program has benefited from the popularity of travelers wanting to “give while getting away,” and the program has grown every year since its inception. In 2008 The Maine Innkeepers Association was able to fund the finishing of six Habitat house interiors with donations from the program, according to Richard Lindgren of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland. “Every completed Habitat home represents an enormous change for the better in someone’s life,” he stated. “We’re delighted that so many of our members step up each year with discounted room rates to help build homes for deserving families in Maine,” stated Dugal. “The program continues to gain popularity with both Innkeepers and travelers. Visitors to Maine enjoy great rates and a wonderful vacation while Innkeepers fill beds in the early spring- and together they support a great cause.” To take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to a great cause while visiting some of Maine’s finest inns, hotels and B&B’s at affordable rates, visit The Maine Innkeepers web page at www.maineinns.com . Click on the Hospitality for Habitat Logo for a complete list of participating properties. Direct Links to each property will provide information on specific room rates, availability, and restrictions. Reservations should be made in advance and donations for $35 should be given to the Innkeeper, made in the form of a check, and written out to Habitat for Humanity. Every dollar donated will help build houses for low income families in Maine.
