Noelle Beck Wins MEIA Education Foundation Award


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 Greg Dugal, Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 Noelle Beck of Waldoboro Wins Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation John O’Keeffe Scholarship for 2009 Maine Innkeepers Association Awarded Scholarships to Maine students at Tees & Textbooks Annual Event in Booth Bay Harbor Freeport, ME –July 2, 2009…..Noelle Beck of Waldoboro was awarded a scholarship by The Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation, affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at a gala dinner at Fisherman’s Wharf Inn, Boothbay Harbor on June 8th as part of MEIA’s 5th annual Tees & Textbooks event, announced Greg Dugal, Executive Director of MEIA. Noelle Beck, attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, was awarded the John O’Keeffe Award of $500. by Laura Honey of Fisherman’s Wharf. The award is sponsored by Laura Honey and Jack Gibbons of Fisherman’s Wharf in Boothbay Harbor. Noelle has worked in every capacity at Moody’s Diner and Moody’s Motel. She would like to become a teacher or a counselor and work in an orphanage to help children find purpose in their lives. The scholarship program, created in 1984 to inspire and support Maine students pursuing careers in hospitality, has awarded over $125,000 to 219 students. “Tourism offers Maine students a wide variety of career opportunities, and continues to be the economic driver for the state,” said Greg Dugal. “We are pleased to support this vital industry with scholarships that provide inspiration and partial support to these fine local students pursuing careers in hospitality.” Any Maine resident who has been accepted to a fully accredited school with specialties in hotel administration or culinary sciences, such as Beal College or Southern Maine Technical College, and is pursuing a career in hospitality may apply for a scholarship award ranging from $500 to $2000. Non-Hospitality Scholarship awards may be made to member’s employees or their children, or children of member innkeepers. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee. Awards are made based on scholarship merit, employment history, financial need, extra curricular activities and desire to work in hospitality.
