Sonny Cough Awarded Hall of Fame

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 email: kewr@glance.net Greg Dugal, Executive Director 207-602-8500 Maine Innkeepers Association Maine Innkeepers Association Presents Bernard “Sonny” Cough of Atlantic Oakes by the Sea Hall of Fame Award for 2009 Freeport , Maine December 5, 2009……….Bernard Cough of Atlantic Oakes by the Sea in Bar Harbor was presented with the Hall of Fame Award for 2009 by the Maine Innkeeper’s Association (MEIA) at their 88th Annual Meeting & Conference held at Atlantic Oceanside Hotel in Bar Harbor, on November 3, 2009. This award is presented to a retired tourism professional who, over a period of ten years or more, contributed though personal involvement and interest to the betterment of the Association and the lodging/hospitality/tourism industry in the State of Maine. Bernard “Sonny” Cough was awarded this honor posthumously and it was accepted on his behalf by his four children. Cough was a hard working hotelier, beginning his working life unloading boxcars of salvaged goods for his father. He eventually became one of the most successful hotel owners in the State of Maine. Cough was very civic minded and served on the Town of Bar Harbor Planning Board for 20 years and also on the Board of the Maine Innkeepers Association. He was a very generous man assisting such diverse causes as the College of the Atlantic, Acadia National Park and the MDI YMCA.
