Danny and Carla Lafayette Awarded
Community Service Award for 2010 by Maine Innkeepers Association
Freeport, Maine November 14, 2010……….Danny and Carla Lafayette of Lafayette Hotels, were awarded the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) Community Service Award for 2010 at the 89th Annual Meeting & Conference at the Cliff House Resort & SPA in Ogunquit on November 8, 2010. This award is presented annually to lodging operators who have taken part in community activities, and who have made a contribution personally, or in the name of the industry or property, to the community.
Recognized leaders in the hospitality business, the Lafayettes built a chain of 27 hotels which include the following Maine properties: the Best Western Black Bear Inn & Conference Center in Orono, the Bar Harbor Hotel and Bluenose Inn in Bar Harbor, the Best Western Senator Inn and Spa in Augusta, and the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland.
The couple has generously contributed to the community for many years, and recently pledged $2 million to the Champion for the Cure campaign for the new, state-of-the-art, Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer.
The Lafayettes were presented with the Community Service award by Peter Daigle, Chief Operating Officer for Lafayette Hotels. The award reads: ‘Danny and Carla have taken generosity to new heights. They have always given to their associates and to their community. Now through their substantial contribution to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center, they have given a gift of hope. We are lucky to have them in the lodging industry, and more importantly, lucky to call them friends.’
“Their generosity and community service is infectious,” stated Peter Daigle. “The employees and staff at Lafayette Hotels have joined them in donating to the new cancer center. The Lafayettes are wonderful community role models.”
