for Students Pursuing Careers in Hospitality
Freeport, ME – February 1, 2012 – The 28th annual scholarship program offered by The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation, affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA), is open to accept applications, announced MEIA Executive Director Greg Dugal. The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation scholarship program offers encouragement with partial support to Maine students pursuing careers in culinary sciences or hospitality. 239 Maine students have been awarded over $146,000 in the past 27 years.
“Each year, we are pleased to open up these scholarships to local students pursuing careers in hospitality,” said Dugal. “Tourism remains an important and vital economic driver for the state, and offers Maine residents a broad range of good career opportunities. It is important to encourage the development of job skills necessary to support and grow the industry.”
Applications must be postmarked before April 6, 2012 and will be reviewed by a selection committee. Any Maine resident who has been accepted to a fully accredited school with specialties in hotel administration or culinary sciences and is pursuing a career in hospitality is encouraged to apply for a scholarship award ranging from $500 to $2000. Family members of active or allied members or their employees pursuing a non hospitality career may also be considered. Awards will be made based on scholarship merit, employment history, financial need, extracurricular activities and desire to work in hospitality.
