MEIA Education Foundation Scholarship Awarded to Hailee Carter of Otis Me.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 Greg Dugal, Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 Hailee Carter of Otis Awarded Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation Scholarship Freeport, ME – June 19, 2012 –Hailee Carter of Otis was awarded a scholarship by The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation, affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at the eighth annual Tees & Textbooks event, at the Senator Inn and SPA in Augusta, on June 4th, 2012, announced Greg Dugal, Executive Director at MEIA. Carter is a student at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. Carter has always wanted to be a baker and worked at the Sugar and Spice Bake Shop in her junior year in high school. She currently is employed by Helen’s Restaurant in Ellsworth and hopes to attend SHNU to obtain a degree in hospitality management and then go on to get her MBA. Carter was awarded a scholarship for $1000, in memory of Jedediah Scott, and sponsored by Peter Daigle of Lafayette Hotels. The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation has awarded 249 Maine students with over $157,800 since the scholarship program began in 1984. The program was designed to inspire Maine students pursuing hospitality careers and this year 9 more students were presented with scholarships totaling $8200. “We are delighted to continue to offer support to these fine Maine students ,” stated Dugal. “We hope that many of the recipients will decide to stay in Maine and pursue their careers in the state.” Scholarships are awarded after review by a selection committee who consider scholastic records, financial need, extracurricular activities and a desire to work in hospitality to Maine students enrolled at fully accredited schools with specialties in culinary arts or hotel administration. This includes hospitality schools in the State University System, private Universities or Colleges, and Maine Community College Systems. Non- hospitality awards may also be available to employees and their families or family members of innkeepers.
