FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KATY KELLY OF LAFAYETTE’S OCEANFRONT RESORT AWARDED COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD FOR 2012 BY MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION
Freeport Maine, November 23, 2012……Katy Kelly of Lafayette’s Oceanfront Resort in Wells was honored with the 2012 Community Service Award by the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at their 91st annual meeting and conference, held November 5-6, 2012 at the Grand Summit Resort and Conference Center in Newry, Maine. Peter Daigle of Lafayette Hotels presented the award to Kelly.
The Maine Innkeepers Association Community Service Award is presented annually to lodging operators who have taken part in community activities, and who have made a contribution personally, or in the name of the industry or property, to the community.
Kelly was recently promoted to President of Lafayette Hotels after being a regional manager, overseeing hotels in Southern Maine and New Hampshire for several years. Kelly began her career with Lafayette Hotels in 1989, and has managed the Oceanfront Resort in Wells since 1997. Kelly managed several other properties during her career, including the Black Bear Inn and Merry Manor.
The inscription on the Community Service award reads: “Katy has been selected to help lead Lafayette Hotels into the future and it is not a wonder why. Katy has been active in New England and local community efforts for years, most notably Save Our Shores where she served as President. Katy is always there for us when we need her to testify in Augusta.”
Peter Daigle, COO of Lafayette Hotels, stated, “Katy is one of the best hotel managers we have ever had. She’s smart, conscientious, has an outstanding work ethic and she has loads of common sense. That is why we selected her to lead our company into the future.”
Kelly has been active on the board of directors of Save Our Shores since 1997 and served as its president from 2000 to 2006. While president, the organization changed from a local organization to one focused on protecting property rights of all property owners along Maine’s coast. The organization has been instrumental in crafting and passing legislation that would allow homeowners to rebuild homes and seawalls after damage by ocean storms.
Kelly served as chairperson of the Best Western New England Committee, and on the board of directors of the Wells Chamber of Commerce from 1997 to 2000. Kelly is a 1987 graduate of Colby College and received her Masters Degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1989.
