NANCY GRAY OF HARRASEEKET INN RECEIVES HALL OF FAME AWARD BY MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION
Freeport Maine, November 20, 2013……Nancy Gray was honored with the 2013 Hall of Fame Award by the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at their 92nd annual meeting and conference, held November 6-7, 2013 at the Doubletree Hotel in South Portland, Maine.
The Hall of Fame Award is presented by the Maine Innkeepers Association to a retired tourism professional who, over a period of ten years or more, contributed though personal involvement and interest to the betterment of the Association and the lodging/hospitality/tourism industry in the State of Maine.
The inscription on the award reads: Nancy is a woman with passion for many causes. It is with that passion that Nancy led the Association into this new century through difficult and interesting times. Her dedication and strong work ethic have been an inspiration to many of our Association leaders.
The daughter of Innkeepers, Gray grew up in the industry working with her parents at their sporting camp on Holeb Pond in the 1940’s. Gray’s love of nature and lessons she learned during ten years on the Gloucester, Massachusetts Conservation Commission are evident in the way she runs the Harraseeket Inn, an award-winning country inn that combines luxury with environmental sensitivity.
Gray served as President of the Maine Innkeepers Association, and was awarded the prestigious Innkeeper of the Year Award in 2000. She was awarded the Community Service Award in 1995 and the Special Service Award for her work at the Legislature in 1998. Gray is often called upon to
more speak on behalf of the industry and a brief she prepared for the for the Business, Research and
Economic Development Committee continues to be referenced by the Maine Hospitality & Tourism Alliance. Gray served on the Resort Committee of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, and was chair in 2002. She was President of the New England Inns & Resorts Association in 1998 and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
