Shyann Gauthier of Appleton Awarded Scholarship from Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207 602 8500 Greg Dugal, Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 Shyann Gauthier of Appleton Awarded Scholarship from Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation Freeport, ME – June 23, 2014 – Shyann Gauthier of Appleton , Maine was awarded a scholarship by The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation, affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at the tenth annual Tees & Textbooks event held June 9th and 10th 2014, at the Samoset Resort in Rockport , announced Greg Dugal, President and CEO at MEIA. Gauthier received the Marcel LaCasse Award of $500. which was sponsored by Joe Van Why of the Doubletree by Hilton in South Portland. Christopher Jones, Chief Operating Officer for Hospitality Association Management Services, presented the scholarship award to Gauthier. Gauthier is currently attending the Southern New Hampshire University, in Manchester NH. Gauthier’s dream is to open a farm to table restaurant and she is attending SNHU to get the culinary education necessary to be successful in her endeavors. Hospitality runs in the family as her mother is employed at the Samoset Resort. The Maine Innkeeper’s Education Foundation scholarship program began 10 years ago to inspire and offer partial support to students pursuing careers in hospitality. Over $180,000. has been awarded to 273 Maine students since 2004. This year twelve Maine students received sponsored scholarships totaling $12,000. “It is wonderful that our membership has once again risen to the occasion and exceeded last year’s contributions to the Maine Innkeeper’s Education Foundation,” stated Dugal. “Our industry remains committed to offering support to Maine students, and we hope many of them will remain in Maine with careers in hospitality.” Scholarships were awarded after review by a selection committee who considered scholastic records, financial need, extracurricular activities and a desire to work in hospitality to Maine students enrolled at fully accredited schools with specialties in culinary arts or hotel administration. This includes hospitality schools in the State University System, private Universities or Colleges, and Maine Community College Systems. Non- hospitality awards may also be available to employees and their families or family members of innkeepers. Maine Innkeeper’s Association Education Foundation is a 501c3 charity.
