02/23/04 - MEIA Announces its 20th Scholarship Pro


Freeport, ME - February 23, 2004 - The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation, affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association, a leading provider of information and support to the lodging and tourism industry of Maine, announced today that it is accepting applications for its "Nineteenth Annual Scholarship Program." The program, designed to meet the partial needs of Maine students pursuing a career in the hospitality industry, has awarded over $100,000 in scholarship money to 160 recipients since its inception. Over the past 19 years, The Maine Innkeepers Association has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships. Students are judged by a selection committee that looks at many different criteria including scholastic record, financial data, extra curricular activities, desire for a career in the hospitality industry, and employment record. Scholarship awards are given only to students who have been accepted to fully accredited schools, with specialties in hotel administration and culinary sciences. These schools include, but are not limited to: all hospitality schools with State University Systems, all private Universities and Colleges, and Maine Technical College System. "We are so excited about the potential growth opportunities for our scholarship program," said Greg Dugal, Executive Director, Maine Innkeepers Association. "We will continue to support the young adults of Maine to pursue careers in hospitality, provide jobs that keep them in Maine and help build the growing business of tourism in this state."
