Awards were given to 48 recipients in four categories. Four of those winners were from Inn By The Sea in Cape Elizabeth. The following winner was announced as “Front Desk/Guest Service Employee of the Year”: Nick Struzziero, Inn By The Sea, Cape Elizabeth ~ Nick Struzziero works as a Reservationists and Customer Care Specialist at the Inn By The Sea, and has played a key role in its guest satisfaction and retention. “Whether it is picking up specialty dog food and Evian Water for a guest arriving, trying to find dinner reservations during Campers Weekend, or giving someone directions to the local sites, you will always see Nick in the center of the guest activity, with a smile!” boasts Management, Inn By The Sea. The following winner was announced as “Maintenance & Groundskeeping Employee of the Year”: John Profenno, Inn By The Sea, Cape Elizabeth ~ John Profenno has been with the Inn for 15+ years. The 79-year-old has stayed working long past the age when most people would retire, not for the money, but for his love of the industry, the Inn and the people he works with. “In this day and age of the “mature” employee returning to work, John is way ahead of the curve. He is loved and respected by all. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this year’s award than John Profenno,” says Management, Inn By The Sea. -more- The following winner was announced as “Housekeeper/Roomkeeper Employee of the Year”: Katie Moore, Inn By The Sea, Cape Elizabeth ~ Katie Moore has only been with the Inn By The Sea for four months, but in that time she has been able to accomplish what it takes some people four years. A role model, mentor and friend to many of the younger “high school” staff, Katie has not only learned and performed her job with the utmost care, but she has been able to see the Inn in a way no one has before and has instituted new ideas and changes for the employees and guests. She schedules a staff of 15, develops specific work assignments, performs QA inspections, trains and helps with planning and record keeping. And she always fulfills any commitment she makes. “She has always put the needs of the Guest above her own and had served as an ideal example of what it means to have a service heart,” says Management, Inn By The Sea. The following winner was announced as “Food & Beverage Employee of the Year”: April Lucas, Inn By The Sea, Cape Elizabeth ~ April Lucas is a Catering Sales Representative, and has been a member of the food and beverage department for 8+ years. In the summer season April also works with Brides and Grooms in all aspects of planning weddings that take place at the Inn. “April is liked and respected by the staff she works with and supervises. She never asks someone to do something that she is not willing to do herself, and she responds to requests with an enthusiastic, “most definitely,” says Management, Inn By The Sea. This is the second time that the Maine Innkeepers Association has hosted the Stars of the Industry Awards, and it had enormous response, with all types of lodging members - B&Bs, hotels, inns, motels and resorts - responding with nominations.
