FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Sara Brazer Brazer Communications (860) 355-8229 Greg Dugal, Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 BOWDOINHAM RESIDENT RECEIVES THE 2005 HALL OF FAME AWARD FROM THE MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION Freeport, ME – December 7, 2005 – The Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA), a leading provider of information and support to the lodging and tourism industry of Maine, recently awarded the recipients of this year’s MEIA Members awards at the MEIA 84th Annual Meeting & Conference, which was held at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. The Hall of Fame Award was given in memory of Marjie Wright, formerly with the Maine Office of Tourism. This award is presented to a retired honorary Active Member, Allied Member or Tourism Professional, who over a period of ten years or more contributed through personal involvement and interest to the betterment of the Association and the lodging/hospitality/tourism industry in the State of Maine. Marjie worked for many years with the Maine Office of Tourism as the International Marketing Manager and Tourism Commission liaison. Marjie was taken from us in her prime in 2004 and the Association wanted to honor her for her dedication to the tourism industry, but more importantly for her ability to put life and all we do, in perspective. The award was presented by two lifelong friends, Bob Smith of Sebasco Harbor Resort and Peter Daigle of Lafayette Hotels. Both individuals shared tremendous amounts of quality time with Marjie on Tourism Commission business and international travels and conveyed these wonderful stories to the crowd on hand. The award was presented to Marjie’s significant other, Chris Farris who spoke eloquently about Marjie. “It is such a pleasure to accept this award in memory of Marjie,” said Chris Farris. “I know that she loved this industry and would have been so proud and humbled to receive this honor. Thank you.” The following five recognition awards were also presented to MEIA members: Allied Member of the Year Award – Tim LaPlante, Prudential Northeast Properties, Camden Special Service Award – Carolyn Manson, Maine Tourism Association President’s Award – Ron Churchill, Bear Spring Camps, Rome Community Service Award – Jan Barrett, Ware Street Inn, Lewiston Innkeeper of the Year - Gus Tillman, Holiday Inn by the Bay, Portland “It gives the Association great pleasure to be able to recognize the achievements of our members with these awards,” said Gregory Dugal, Executive Director, Maine Innkeepers Association, “We miss Marjie and wanted to remember her hard work and devotion to our industry through this award.” About the Maine Innkeepers Association The Maine Innkeepers Association, a leading provider of tourism information to both Maine’s lodging industry and its visitors, represents nearly 800 B&Bs, camps, cottages, hotels, inns, motels and resorts across Maine, and their suppliers.
