FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Sara Brazer Brazer Communications (860) 355-8229 Greg Dugal Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES LOCAL RESIDENT AS 2005 INNKEEPER OF THE YEAR Freeport, ME – December 7, 2005 – Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA), a leading provider of information and support to the lodging and tourism industry of Maine, recently awarded the recipients of this year’s MEIA Members awards at the MEIA 84th Annual Meeting & Conference, which was held at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. The Innkeeper of The Year Award was given to Gus Tillman, Holiday Inn by the Bay, Portland. The Innkeeper of the Year Award is given to an active lodging operator who has contributed significant time and effort toward the improvement of the Association. Gus Tillman came to Maine in 1958 to manage the Lafayette Hotel on Congress Street, and then became GM at the Holiday Inn West in 1964. Having held many prominent positions within the Maine Innkeepers Association including President, and he was also President of the now legendary Vacationland Motel Association; Tillman has been involved with most of Maine’s tourism industry associations at one time during his career. In 1992 he was inducted into the Maine Tourism Hall of Fame by The Maine Publicity Bureau, and he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Maine Restaurant Association in 2002. He currently serves as Senior Advisor to both The MEIA and the Maine Restaurant Association, and is Treasurer of the Maine Tourism Association. Married for 39 years, he has two children and two grandchildren. “I am so honored and surprised to accept the Innkeeper of the Year Award from the Maine Innkeepers Association,” said Gus Tillman. “There is such a top quality list of Innkeepers, who all work hard to keep improving the hospitality and tourism industry in this state.
