THE MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THE 2ND ANNUAL TEES AND TEXTBOOKS EVENT
The two-day Big Event combines the Twenty-second Annual Education Scholarship Event with the 12th Annual Hospitality Golf Classic
Freeport, ME – May 10, 2006 – The Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA), a leading provider of information and support to the lodging and tourism industry of Maine, is pleased to present its second annual Tees and Textbooks Big Event. The two-day event will take place at the Bethel Inn & Country Club on June 12th and 13th.
The event will kick off with the Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation Gala Scholarship Dinner on the 12th; including a social hour sponsored by New England Coffee Company, and scholarship recipients being honored after dinner. The evening will wrap up with entertainment – sponsored by Ron Churchill of Bear Spring Camps – from Bob Marley. Originally from Maine, Bob Marley began performing stand up comedy in his hometown of Portland. Making his first television appearance on Comedy Central, he's also a regular stand-up on many shows, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, MAD TV and Prime Time Live with Diane Sawyer. Marley headlines shows around the country each year, including Caesar's Palace, The Mirage, The Trump Plaza, Mandalay Bay, The Riviera, and The Tropicana. He remains an overwhelming favorite and local celebrity in his native Maine, breaking a New England Comedy club record by selling out 400 consecutive shows. Marley has entered the film world co-starring in the Boondock Saints with Willem Dafoe, for which the Boston Herald praised him as “an unknown who shines”, as well as The Breaks and Pennyweight . Currently Bob has sold over 50,000 CDs and DVDs. Audiences are in for a treat whether they catch this Mainer’s act on stage or on screen.
The Big Event will wrap up the following day with the Hospitality Golf Classic, sponsored by The New England Coffee Company. The event will start at 9:00am as a shotgun start, and meals will consist of a hot pick-up and go breakfast and an awards barbecue lunch. Prudential Northeast Properties will once again sponsor hole-in one prizes on the course as they did last year; and this year’s prize will be a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and has spawned our mantra, “Marley and Harley.”
Tickets for the Scholarship dinner are $50 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation, which is a 501c3 charity. Tickets for the Golf Classic are $110 for an individual (includes golf, breakfast and lunch), or $415 for a foursome. The deadline to purchase tickets is June 2nd. To purchase tickets, please contact Julie Campbell at 865-6100 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
“We are thrilled to be able to continue our Big Event this year, as the merging of the Scholarship dinner and Golf Classic last year, was a huge hit!” said Greg Dugal, Executive Director, MEIA. “This event offers excellent networking opportunities for our active and allied membership prior to the busy summer season, and allows them to support students of Maine who are hoping to continue education in the hospitality field.”
