5th Hospitality for Habitat Sets New Record 7/2/2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 Greg Dugal, Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION REPORTS 5TH ANNUAL “HOSPITALITY FOR HABITAT” PROGRAM A SUCCESS Freeport, ME – July 2, 2008 – The Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA), a leading provider of information and support to the lodging and tourism industry of Maine, is pleased to announce that its fifth annual “Hospitality for Habitat” program was a complete success, raising a record $12,000 for Habitat for Humanity and helping with spring hospitality numbers. The project, that was designed to raise money for local Maine chapters of Habitat for Humanity, attracted more than 40 MEIA members, who offered a designated number of their rooms at half price from May 1 – May 23. In return, guests donated a $35 check payable to Habitat for Humanity for their stay at half price. The idea for the project came from Marian Burns, owner of the Mira Monte Inn in Bar Harbor, whose Inn alone accounted for $610 of the money raised this year. “It seems a perfect fit,” says Ms. Burns. “The Maine Innkeepers Association members provide lodging for the traveling public; Habitat for Humanity helps provide lodging for families not otherwise able to afford it.” The three other large contributors to this program were the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, raising a record amount of $3470; the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport raised $2420, the Oakland House Seaside Resort raised $1645 and the Village by the Sea Hotel & Conference Center in Wells raised $1010. “Our guests love booking rooms in May when they can support Hospitality for Habitat, “said Nancy Gray, Innkeeper/owner of the Freeport Haraseeket Inn. “And the staff really enjoys having this program that helps Maine families, so this year we actually extended the time frame at the Haraseeket so more visitors could enjoy the discount and contribute to such a great cause.” “We’re delighted that so many of our members stepped up to help us with this project again this year,” stated Greg Dugal, Executive Director, MEIA, as he counted up hundreds of checks from 44 participating properties. “And we hope the next time we do this, we can at least double that amount.” “We seem to have hit a chord with people - guests get a real deal on a nice stay, and they help a very good cause at the same time,” he continued.
