FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207 602 8500 Greg Dugal President/CEO Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 213-2060 Anna Brown of Pownal Awarded Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation Scholarship Augusta ME –August 5 2015– Anna Brown of Pownal was awarded a scholarship by The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at the 11th annual Tees & Textbooks event held at Best Western Plus in Waterville on June 8th announced Greg Dugal President and CEO at MEIA. Brown is attending Plymouth State University in Plymouth New Hampshire as a hospitality major. Her career goal is to one day own her own hotel in the Boston area! Brown has held many different positions working at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport including experience as a breakfast and banquet server. Brown accepted the Charles Samelson ($500) Award sponsored by his son Harry Samelson from Greg Dugal and Greg Goforth of Maine Innkeepers Association. The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation began in 1984 and is designed to offer support and encouragement to Maine students pursuing education and a career in hospitality. The program has awarded over $192000 to 260 students since inception. This year the following twelve students were presented with scholarships totally $12000. “ We are very pleased to offer these scholarships to encourage these terrific Maine students many of whom are hoping to pursue a career in hospitality” stated Dugal. “The hospitality industry in Maine is the largest industry in Maine and offers a variety of good career paths to Maine students.” Scholarships are awarded after review by a selection committee who consider scholastic records financial need extracurricular activities and a desire to work in hospitality to Maine students enrolled at fully accredited schools with specialties in culinary arts or hotel administration. This includes hospitality schools in the State University System private Universities or Colleges and Maine Community College Systems. Non- hospitality awards may also be available to employees and their families or family members of innkeepers. All contributions made by the sponsors are donations to the Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation and are tax deductible as the Foundation is a 501c3 organization.
