Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 Greg Dugal Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JOHN “JACK” GIBBONS RECEIVES HALL OF FAME AWARD BY MAINE INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION Freeport Maine November 23 2012……John “Jack” Gibbons was honored posthumously with the 2012 Hall of Fame Award by the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) at their 91st annual meeting and conference held November 5-6 2012 at the Grand Summit Resort and Conference Center in Newry Maine. The award was presented by Bob Smith of Sebasco Harbor Resort and accepted by Laura Honey a long time friend of Gibbons. The Hall of Fame Award is presented by the Maine Tourism Association to a retired tourism professional who over a period of ten years or more contributed though personal involvement and interest to the betterment of the Association and the lodging/hospitality/tourism industry in the State of Maine. The inscription on the award reads: “Jack was a dear friend and enthusiastic supporter of the Association. He will be remembered for his golf prowess and his attendance at every meeting and event with his dear friend Laura Honey by his side. He was one of a kind and his keen wit will be missed.” Gibbons grew up in Wisconsin and had a diverse background before coming to Maine. He served during the Korean War and later had careers as a game warden Anchor Hocking Glass salesman in the New York City area and owner of Gibbons Cadillac-Buick in Torrington Connecticut. Gibbons moved to Maine and for 39 years was an owner of Fisherman’s Wharf Inn Argo Cruises and the Boothbay Whale Watch in Boothbay Harbor until his death in December 2011. Gibbons loved golf and was known locally as “Dew Sweeper” in recognition of his regular 5:30 a.m. tee times.
