Brown received the Women in Hospitality Award of $3000. which was sponsored by Nancy Gray Innkeeper and Owner of the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport Maureen McQuade. an Owner of the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth Kathryn Weare former owner of the Cliff House Spa & Resort in Ogunquit Jean Ginn Marvin Innkeeper/ Owner of the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport Marian Burns Innkeeper / Owner of Mira Monte Inn & Suites in Bar Harbor and Darlene Ratte Assistant General Manager at the Best Western Waterville Plus. Brown accepted the scholarship from Darlene Ratte. Brown is currently attending Husson University in Bangor where she is a graduate student in hospitality management. She has developed her hospitality skills working at the Poland Spring Resort. Brown’s ultimate goal is to own a resort hotel. The Maine Innkeeper’s Education Foundation scholarship program began 10 years ago to offer partial support to students pursuing careers in hospitality. Over $180000. has been awarded to 273 Maine students since 2004. This year twelve Maine students received sponsored scholarships totaling $12000. “It is wonderful that our membership has once again risen to the occasion and exceeded last year’s contributions to the Maine Innkeeper’s Education Foundation” stated Dugal. “Our industry remains committed to offering support to Maine students and we hope many of them will remain in Maine with careers in hospitality.” Scholarships were awarded after review by a selection committee who considered scholastic records financial need extracurricular activities and a desire to work in hospitality to Maine students enrolled at fully accredited schools with specialties in culinary arts or hotel administration. This includes hospitality schools in the State University System private Universities or Colleges and Maine Community College Systems.
