Innkeepers attended two days of educational seminars which culminated in an awards dinner recognizing the achievements of industry members. “Many of our members are actively involved in supporting both their communities and the industry” stated MEIA Executive Director Greg Dugal. “This year we are very pleased to honor the accomplishments of seven exceptional individuals who have contributed their time and expertise to the hospitality industry.” 2011 Innkeeper of the Year was awarded to Jean Ginn Marvin owner and Innkeeper of the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. The award was presented by Bob Smith of Sebasco Harbor Resort who stated that the well deserved recognition was going to an Innkeeper whose involvement in the hospitality industry was legendary. Marvin served in the Maine State Legislature where she represented both the interests of the lodging industry and her community. Marvin has served on the Executive Committee of the Maine Innkeepers Association as well as the board of New England Inns and Resorts. She also serves on the President’s Advisory Council at SMCC was a former Town Councilor in Cape Elizabeth and has been a member of several Cape Elizabeth town commissions. Allied Member of the Year was awarded to Tom Tobiassen of Nelson and Small a nationally recognized appliance distributor. Tobiassen was honored for his generous and long time support for the association and its members providing scholarship funding for hospitality students and annual support for the Hospitably Golf Classic. Special Service Award was presented to James Erwin of Pierce Atwood by MEIA Executive Director Greg Dugal. Pierce Atwood was recognized for their ongoing assistance to the hospitality industry and James Erwin individually for hours of volunteer work generously donated to industry issues. Community Service Award was presented to Gail Phillips of Village by the Sea by Alvion Kimball of the Orland House B&B in Orland. For the past three years Phillips and her staff have been the top leaders in raising funds for Habitat for Humanity projects in Maine through the Maine Innkeepers annual Hospitality for Habitat program. Hall of Fame Award was awarded to Angela and Arthur LeBlanc by Peter Daigle of Lafayette Hotels. Former owners of the Kennebunk Inn and Sea Scapes Restaurant in Cape Porpoise the LeBlanc’s were honored as consummate hoteliers and restaurateurs. Angela LeBlanc served as a past MEIA president and raised the profile of the Association’s scholarship program during her tenure. President’s Award was awarded to Woody Woodward of Highland Lake Resort in Bridgton. Woodward was recognized for the humor he brings to the many boards on which he serves and for past leadership to the MEIA board and the lodging industry in general.
