FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact information: Rauni Kew 207-602-8500 Greg Dugal Executive Director Maine Innkeepers Association (207) 865-6100 Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation Awards 11 Maine Students Scholarships at Ninth Annual Tees & Textbooks Event Freeport ME –June 19 2013– The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) presented eleven Maine students with hospitality scholarships at the ninth annual Tees & Textbooks gala dinner complete with entertainment from the Tony Boffa quartet at the Fireside Inn and Suites in Portland on June 3rd 2013 announced Greg Dugal Executive Director at MEIA. The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation scholarships are designed to inspire and offer partial support to Maine students pursuing hospitality careers. 260 students have been awarded over $168800 since the scholarship program began in 1984. “We are delighted to offer support to these exceptional Maine students. Hospitality offers a wide variety of great career opportunities right here in Maine and we are proud to encourage these local students in such a positive manner” stated Dugal. This year the following eleven students were presented with sponsored scholarships totaling $11000: Malcolm Legloahec Portland from Southern Maine Community College South Portland ME. received the Charles Samelson Award ($1500 award) sponsored by Dirigo Stitching and Harry Samelson Laura Brown of West Poland attending Husson University Bangor ME. received the Ed Langlois Award ($500 award) sponsored by Sebasco Harbor Resort. Belinda Place of Morrill attending Thomas College Waterville ME. was selected for the Women in Hospitality scholarship ($3000 award) sponsored by Nancy Gray of Harraseeket Inn in Freeport Maureen McQuade of the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth Kathryn Weare of the Cliff House in Ogunquit Jean Ginn Marvin of the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport Marian Burns of the Mira Monte Inn and Suites in Bar Harbor and Darlene Ratte of the Best Western Waterville. Olivia Penney of Rockport attending University of Massachusetts Amherst MA. accepted the Maine Innkeepers Memorial Award ($1000 Award) sponsored by Giri Hotel Family. Lee Kitchen of Rockport attending the New England Culinary Institute Montpelier VT. won the Marcel LaCasse Award ($500 Award) sponsored by Joe Van Why. Amber Davis of Bangor attending the Husson University Bangor ME. received the Charlie Keegan Award ($1000 Award) sponsored by Migis Hotel Group. Maine Innkeeper Education Foundation Scholarships are awarded after review by a selection committee who consider scholastic records financial need extracurricular activities and a desire to work in hospitality to Maine students enrolled at fully accredited schools with specialties in culinary arts or hotel administration. This includes hospitality schools in the State University System private Universities or Colleges and Maine Community College Systems. Non- hospitality awards may also be available to employees and their families or family members of innkeepers.
