The 2015 Annual MEIA Awards were presented to outstanding members of the tourism industry who had greatly contributed to the lodging/hospitality and tourism industry in the state. Jed Porta Tim Porta’s son accepted the award for his father who was travelling from Phil Kronenthal all of the Migis Hotel Group. The award is given annually to a person who has actively contributed to the hospitality industry as a whole according to MEIA. Tim Porta President of the Migis Hotel Group grew up in the hospitality industry and first worked as a young man in his parent’s hotels on Martha’s Vineyard. He attended the hotel school at Michigan State University and later operated officers clubs in Viet Nam for the Army during the Vietnam War before returning to hospitality in the North East. Tim Porta and his wife Joan have been owners of Migis Lodge since 1978 when they purchased the property from his parents. They are pioneers in the industry and have been extremely charitable to the communities in which they operate.
